Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, treasury, technology, shared services, manufacturing, tourism, and digital commerce, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and the Klang Valley. For island living, Penang combines established business districts, heritage neighborhoods, excellent food, beaches, and a relatively international lifestyle. Langkawi is more relaxed and tourism-focused, while Sabah and Sarawak offer distinctive cultures and natural attractions. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, with English widely used in professional settings. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas are more expensive. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. Before relocating, check current immigration rules, qualification requirements, healthcare coverage, housing, schooling, taxation, and dependent-pass arrangements. Public transport is strongest in Kuala Lumpur and Penang; elsewhere, driving is often useful.
