Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel design, product development, manufacturing, engineering, IT, tourism, logistics, finance, and shared services. Colombo and nearby industrial zones provide the largest concentration of professional jobs, while Kandy, Galle, and other cities offer a slower pace and lower living costs. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse food, strong family and community traditions, and a culture influenced by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial heritage. Colombo provides modern shopping, restaurants, hospitals, schools, and international connections, although traffic and housing costs can be significant. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa, arranged with employer support and approval from Sri Lankan authorities; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocating employees should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, tax, insurance, and dependants’ arrangements before arrival. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Sinhala or Tamil can improve daily life and workplace integration.
