Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, catering, clubs and event venues, making it an attractive destination for experienced chefs. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; politeness, efficiency, punctuality and respect for hierarchy are important at work. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, outstanding dining, shopping, hiking and nearby beaches. Housing can be expensive, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central areas, so many employees live in Kowloon or the New Territories. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval based on qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Employers may assist with visa applications, flights or accommodation, but packages vary. New arrivals should prepare documentation, arrange housing and understand local tax, healthcare and employment rules before relocating.
