Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city with major opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation, education and professional services. Although best known for its urban core, it also has beaches, hiking trails and quieter islands such as Lantau, Lamma and Cheung Chau. Cantonese is the main local language, while English is widely used in business and Mandarin is increasingly common. Life is fast-paced and convenient, with excellent public transport, international dining and extensive shopping, though housing is expensive and apartments are often small. Employment visas are generally sponsored by the employer; skilled professionals commonly apply through the General Employment Policy and must show a confirmed job, suitable qualifications and market-level pay. New arrivals should budget for deposits, healthcare, transport and relocation costs. Hong Kong offers an international lifestyle, strong career networks and easy travel throughout Asia.
