Destination Guide

The Philippines offers opportunities for chefs and hospitality professionals in resorts, hotels, restaurants, cruise operations and catering, particularly in Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Bohol and Davao. The culture is welcoming, family-oriented and strongly influenced by Filipino, Spanish, American and regional Asian traditions. Island living can provide warm weather, beaches, outdoor activities and a relaxed lifestyle, although transport, healthcare and internet access vary outside major cities. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and an appropriate visa, commonly coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration. Relocating employees should confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, medical coverage, taxes and flights in writing. Local living costs are moderate compared with many international destinations, but major resort areas can be more expensive. Learning basic Filipino phrases and respecting local customs will help with workplace integration.
