Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, food and beverage, retail, technology and professional services. Major hospitality markets include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the east-coast islands. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, while Malay is the official language. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many international destinations, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular resort islands can be more expensive. Malaysia has tropical weather, excellent food, beaches, rainforests and efficient regional travel. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass sponsored by the hiring company, with approval from Malaysian authorities before starting work. Candidates should confirm accommodation, healthcare, tax, relocation support and dependent-pass arrangements in the offer. Resort postings may involve quieter locations and seasonal travel patterns.
