Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers strong opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, travel services, tourism sales and supporting business functions, particularly in Colombo, Galle, Bentota, Kandy and the eastern and southern coastal areas. The culture is welcoming and community-oriented, with Sinhalese, Tamil and English widely used in different settings. Life combines busy urban areas with beaches, tea country, wildlife parks and historic towns. Living costs are usually lower than in many international destinations, although imported goods and accommodation in premium areas can be expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment visa or residence approval before working; requirements, fees and eligibility should be confirmed with the employer and Sri Lankan authorities. Relocation planning should include housing, health insurance, banking, transport and school arrangements where relevant. Hospitality work commonly involves shifts, seasonal demand and weekend work, but offers valuable international experience and career progression.
