Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics, technology and professional services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Johor and Sabah. Island living in Langkawi or Penang combines beaches, tropical scenery and a relaxed lifestyle with access to growing hospitality markets. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, languages and daily life. Living costs are generally moderate, although rents in prime areas and resort locations can be higher. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; eligibility depends on qualifications, salary and the role, and working before approval is not permitted. Relocating usually involves an employment contract, passport checks, medical requirements and dependent documentation where applicable. Reliable public transport is strongest in cities, while islands may require driving or ride-hailing.
