Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city with strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, tourism, marketing and regional corporate services. Although commonly associated with Hong Kong Island, the territory includes Kowloon, the New Territories and numerous outlying islands. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international business practices, festivals, excellent food and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Public transport is efficient, housing is expensive, and salaries should be assessed against rent and daily costs. Beaches, hiking trails and islands provide easy escapes from the city. Overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval depending on qualifications, experience and the role’s business need. Employers commonly assist with visa applications, while newcomers should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and tax registration. Cantonese is widely spoken, and English is commonly used in business.
