Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, technology, finance and shared services. Island-based work is especially common in Langkawi, Penang, Pangkor and Sabah’s resort destinations. Penang combines heritage culture, excellent food and a lively urban lifestyle, while Langkawi offers beaches, nature and a slower pace, though transport and housing can be more limited. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels and business. Living costs are moderate, but island rents and imported goods may be higher. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and should not begin work until approval is granted. Employers usually guide the application, medical checks and documentation. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, working hours and visa sponsorship before relocating.
