Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago with varied opportunities across Java, Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi and other islands. Hospitality jobs are concentrated in Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Batam and major resort destinations, with demand for chefs, hotel supervisors, wellness staff and tourism professionals. Balinese culture is strongly shaped by Hindu traditions, while other regions reflect Muslim, Christian and indigenous customs. Daily life can range from busy cities and traffic to relaxed beach communities; food, community relationships and religious ceremonies are central to local life. Living costs vary considerably, with Bali resort areas often more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and KITAS, and must not work on a tourist visa. Employers may assist with immigration, accommodation, meals, transport and health coverage, but arrangements differ. Before relocating, verify the employment contract, permit responsibility, salary after tax, housing, climate, healthcare access and local transportation.
