Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, technology, finance, healthcare, retail and logistics. Hotel and restaurant jobs are widely available, especially for candidates with customer-service, culinary, marketing, revenue or management experience. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally respectful, with English commonly used at work alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient, safe and well connected by public transport, although rent and everyday expenses can be high. International employees usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and sector requirements. Employers generally handle the application. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking and tax registration. Singapore offers excellent food, clean public spaces, shopping, parks and easy travel to Southeast Asia, but its fast-paced working culture may require adjustment.
