Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact city-state and island with excellent infrastructure, a safe environment and a highly international hospitality sector. Job opportunities are strong in luxury hotels, restaurants, catering, events and food-and-beverage operations, although competition is significant and employers usually prefer relevant qualifications and proven experience. The culture is multicultural, combining Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, with English widely used at work. Lifestyle costs, especially rent, can be high, but public transport is efficient and healthcare and public services are well developed. Foreign professionals normally require an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and government approval. Relocating staff should budget for housing deposits, insurance, transport and daily expenses. Singapore’s warm, humid climate, hawker food, shopping, green spaces and convenient regional air connections are major lifestyle advantages.
