Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural island city with strong opportunities in aviation, food services, logistics, technology, finance, healthcare, hospitality and manufacturing. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, with an emphasis on efficiency, punctuality and workplace professionalism. Lifestyle options include excellent public transport, safe neighbourhoods, hawker centres, shopping, parks and nearby regional travel. Living costs can be high, especially rent, although public transport and local food are comparatively affordable. Foreign interns should confirm whether their employer arranges a Training Employment Pass, Training Work Permit or another suitable pass; eligibility depends on nationality, course and employer requirements. Professionals usually need an Employment Pass or S Pass. Plan accommodation, health insurance and relocation costs before arrival, and check current rules with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower.
