Destination Guide

Australia offers physiotherapy opportunities in hospitals, private clinics, aged care, disability services, rehabilitation, sports medicine and community health. Demand is often strongest outside major cities and in regional or rural areas. Workplace culture is generally practical, collaborative and respectful, with emphasis on patient safety, clear communication and work-life balance. Adelaide and the surrounding Fleurieu Peninsula offer a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, wineries, outdoor activities and lower housing costs than Sydney or Melbourne, although transport may be important in community roles. Physiotherapists must usually obtain Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration and meet English-language and qualification requirements. Overseas professionals may need an assessment through the Australian Physiotherapy Council. Visa options can include employer-sponsored, skilled, regional or working holiday pathways, depending on eligibility. Before relocating, check registration, visa conditions, tax, professional insurance, accommodation and local transport requirements.
