Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, engineering, information technology, tourism, logistics, finance, healthcare, and business services. The country has a diverse culture shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences, with Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian traditions. Life combines busy urban centres such as Colombo with quieter coastal, hill-country, and rural areas. Living costs are generally lower than in many international business hubs, although housing and imported goods can be expensive in Colombo. Foreign employees normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa arranged with employer support before working legally; tourists cannot work. Relocating professionals should confirm accommodation, healthcare, taxation, transport, and dependent-visa arrangements in advance. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Sinhala or Tamil can help with daily communication. Sri Lanka’s tropical climate, beaches, mountains, wildlife, and strong food culture make it attractive for expatriates.
