Destination Guide

Sri Lanka is an island nation with growing opportunities in apparel manufacturing, engineering, information technology, tourism, logistics, finance, and shared services. Industrial engineering roles are concentrated around Colombo, Katunayake, Biyagama, Koggala, and other manufacturing zones. The country offers a relaxed lifestyle, tropical beaches, historic cities, hill-country scenery, and relatively affordable daily living outside central Colombo. Sri Lankan culture values hospitality, family, religious traditions, and respectful communication; English is widely used in business, especially in large companies. Foreign nationals generally need the appropriate employment or residence visa arranged with employer support before working legally. Interns should confirm whether the company sponsors visas, provides accommodation, transport, meals, or an allowance. Housing and commuting costs vary considerably by location. Colombo has the widest professional network and services, while factory locations may offer a quieter and less expensive lifestyle.
