Destination Guide

Khao Lak is a relaxed coastal destination in Phang Nga Province, on Thailand’s Andaman coast. It is not an island, but it provides easy access to nearby island and marine destinations such as the Similan and Surin Islands, famous for snorkeling and diving. Hospitality jobs are the main employment opportunity, including hotels, restaurants, spas, tour companies, guest services, and event operations. The lifestyle is quieter than Phuket, with beaches, seafood restaurants, markets, national parks, and a strong outdoor culture. Thai is the everyday language, while English is widely used in tourism. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit before legally working; requirements should be confirmed with the employer and Thai authorities. Relocation costs, accommodation, transport, insurance, and seasonal weather should be considered. Khao Lak has a wet season, and transport is easier with a scooter or local taxi, though proper licensing and safety precautions are essential.
