Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, facilities, engineering, retail and shared services. Desaru Coast is on the Johor mainland rather than an island, but it has a relaxed coastal lifestyle with beaches, golf, water activities and nearby nature attractions. Local culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with excellent food and frequent religious and cultural festivals. Living costs are generally lower than Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, although resort-area housing and transport can be limited. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or another appropriate work authorization before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and occupation. Employers commonly assist with applications, but candidates should confirm permits, accommodation, medical checks and relocation support in writing. Johor’s proximity to Singapore is convenient, though cross-border commuting can be tiring. Learn basic Malay, respect local customs and plan transport carefully, especially for shift work.
