Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak, including hotel operations, restaurants, resorts, events and tourism services. Kuala Lumpur is not an island, but it is the country’s main urban employment centre, with modern transport, shopping, international dining and a generally affordable lifestyle compared with many global cities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, languages and everyday life. Work is often fast-paced in hotels, and English is widely used; Malay is useful, while Mandarin or Cantonese can help in some restaurants. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval handled through the company and Malaysian immigration authorities. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, insurance, tax, transport and pass conditions. Langkawi and Penang provide more island-oriented lifestyles, but job markets can be smaller and seasonal.
