Destination Guide

The Maldives offers opportunities mainly in luxury resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, housekeeping, engineering, finance, and guest services. Resort employment is often based on a private island, with accommodation, meals, uniforms, and transport provided. Life is scenic and community-focused, but can feel remote, with limited shopping, nightlife, and personal space compared with major cities. Maldivian culture is influenced by Islam, so modest dress and respect for local customs are important, especially on inhabited islands. English is widely used in tourism, while Dhivehi is the national language. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and valid employment approval before working; requirements and fees are handled through the employer and relevant authorities. Candidates should confirm contract terms, medical checks, flights, insurance, service charge, leave, and accommodation arrangements before relocating.
