Destination Guide

Although the UAE is not an island, it offers strong hospitality, tourism, retail, aviation and events employment opportunities, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The culture combines Emirati traditions, Islamic values and a highly international workforce; respectful dress, punctuality and professional conduct are important. Dubai provides a busy urban lifestyle, beaches, desert activities, shopping, restaurants and extensive public transport, though housing and schooling can be expensive. Most foreign employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas. Employers commonly arrange the work permit, medical examination, Emirates ID and residency processing, while employees should confirm health insurance, accommodation, transport, annual leave and flights in the contract. Relocating candidates should budget for deposits, temporary accommodation and document attestation. The UAE has no personal income tax on salaries, but living costs vary considerably by neighborhood and lifestyle.
