Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it is a popular Gulf destination with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, aviation, retail, construction, finance and technology. Abu Dhabi offers a polished, multicultural lifestyle, modern infrastructure, beaches, shopping malls, desert excursions and major sporting and cultural attractions. English is widely used at work, while Arabic is the official language. Life can be comfortable but relatively expensive, particularly for housing, and summers are extremely hot. Employers commonly sponsor work visas, arrange medical testing and issue residency permits after hiring; employees should not work on a tourist visa. Relocation packages may include accommodation, transport, meals, health insurance and annual flights, but these benefits vary. Candidates should verify the written contract, salary, working hours, probation period and visa arrangements before travelling. Respect for local laws, modest public behaviour and Islamic customs is important.
