Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, resorts, tourism, and food service, particularly in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kyoto, Okinawa, and Hokkaido. Hospitality work values punctuality, cleanliness, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, and careful attention to detail. Life is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, and varied food and cultural experiences, although major cities can be expensive and work schedules may be demanding. Chefs may find roles in international hotels, luxury resorts, restaurants, and event venues; Japanese-language ability is a significant advantage. Most foreign workers need an appropriate work visa, commonly a Skilled Labor or Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services status, depending on duties and qualifications. Employers often assist with sponsorship, but applicants should confirm requirements with the hotel and Japanese immigration authorities. Relocation planning should include housing, health insurance, taxes, transport, and language preparation.
