Destination Guide

Australia offers hospitality opportunities in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast and regional tourism destinations. Hotels, restaurants, resorts and event venues regularly seek supervisors, chefs, servers, housekeeping staff and managers, although competition can be strong in major cities. Australian workplace culture is generally informal but professional, with emphasis on punctuality, safety, teamwork and clear communication. Sydney provides beaches, cultural attractions, outdoor activities and a multicultural lifestyle, but housing and transport costs can be high. Most overseas workers need an appropriate visa, such as a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa or skilled visa; eligibility depends on nationality, occupation, age and experience. Applicants should check current requirements with the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Relocating typically involves arranging accommodation, a tax file number, Australian bank account, health cover and a realistic budget for rent and living costs.
