Destination Guide

Japan offers varied hospitality and culinary opportunities in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Okinawa, Hokkaido, and other tourist destinations. Hotels, restaurants, resorts, ryokan, and international brands regularly recruit chefs, kitchen assistants, service staff, and front-office professionals. Japanese workplace culture values punctuality, politeness, teamwork, cleanliness, and respect for seniority. Tokyo provides excellent transport, dining, entertainment, and career development, although rent and living costs are relatively high. Regional cities and resort areas may offer a slower lifestyle and lower housing costs. Foreign applicants need an appropriate residence status before starting work. Depending on qualifications and duties, options may include a work visa such as Skilled Labor or Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services, or the Specified Skilled Worker route for eligible food-service roles. Employers may assist with sponsorship, but requirements vary. Learning practical Japanese significantly improves workplace communication and daily life. Japan’s major islands—Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku—offer distinct climates and lifestyles.
