Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, resorts, tourism, food production, technology, and international business. Major hospitality markets include Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Okinawa, Hokkaido, and the Disney resort area near Tokyo. Japanese workplace culture values punctuality, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, cleanliness, and careful attention to detail. Life is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, although Tokyo-area housing and commuting costs can be high. Foreign culinary professionals usually need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work status, commonly the Skilled Labor status for specialized cuisine, with eligibility depending on experience and duties. A Certificate of Eligibility is normally arranged before applying for the visa. Applicants should confirm salary, accommodation, overtime, insurance, and relocation support directly with the employer. Basic Japanese greatly improves daily life and career progression, even when the workplace uses English.
