Destination Guide

Japan offers hospitality, culinary, tourism and service opportunities in major destinations including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hokkaido, Okinawa and resort areas. Hotel chefs, restaurant staff and bilingual employees are often valued, especially those with Japanese ability and international experience. Japanese culture emphasizes punctuality, cleanliness, teamwork, respect and careful attention to guests. Daily life is safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, but accommodation and living costs can be high around Tokyo. New arrivals should arrange a residence card, local address registration, health insurance and a bank account. Foreign workers need an appropriate status of residence; culinary positions may qualify through routes such as Specified Skilled Worker or a skilled-labor status, depending on duties, qualifications and nationality. Employer sponsorship and Japanese-language ability are important. Research the contract, overtime, housing, taxes and relocation support before accepting an offer.
