Destination Guide

Labuan Bajo is a growing tourism hub on Flores, an island known for dramatic landscapes, traditional villages, diving, and access to Komodo National Park. Job opportunities are strongest in hotels, resorts, restaurants, transportation, tour operations, diving, wellness, and retail, although senior roles may be competitive. Local culture is welcoming and diverse, with strong Catholic and indigenous traditions; respectful dress and behavior are appreciated outside resort areas. Life is relaxed but more remote than Bali, with limited nightlife, higher prices for imported goods, and occasional infrastructure or internet limitations. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Indonesian work permit and appropriate stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers may assist with immigration, accommodation, meals, flights, insurance, and relocation, but terms should be confirmed in writing. New arrivals should budget for transport, health care access, tropical weather, and travel between islands.
