Destination Guide

Penang Island is one of Malaysia’s most attractive places to relocate for hospitality work, with opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, events and wellness services. George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its multicultural heritage, street art, temples, colonial buildings and excellent food. Life is generally relaxed, though tourism periods can be busy and hospitality work often includes rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. Rent is usually higher near central George Town and resort areas, while public buses, e-hailing services and motorbikes make commuting practical. Malaysia’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with heavier rain during monsoon periods. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit or Employment Pass, and should not begin work before approval. Confirm visa rules, salary, accommodation and medical requirements directly with Marriott and Malaysian immigration authorities before relocating.
