Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, with varied employment opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, food and beverage, diving, retail, technology and business services. Manado, on Sulawesi, offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle, lower living costs than Jakarta or Bali, friendly communities and excellent access to Bunaken’s marine environment. Local culture is diverse and strongly influenced by family, religion, regional traditions and hospitality; respectful dress and behavior are valued. Daily life is generally warm and informal, though traffic, public transport and specialist services can be more limited outside major cities. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and the appropriate Indonesian work and stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, salary, accommodation, health insurance, tax arrangements and whether the employer assists with immigration, flights and settling-in costs.
