Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, security, tourism, technology and shared services. Melaka is a historic mainland city rather than an island, with a relaxed lifestyle, affordable food, heritage architecture and easy access to Kuala Lumpur. Nearby island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Pangkor, Tioman, Redang and the Perhentian Islands, each offering beaches, diving, local culture and resort employment. Malaysian life is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences reflected in festivals, cuisine and languages. English is widely used in tourism and business, while Bahasa Malaysia is the official language. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or other approved work authorization; working on a tourist entry is not permitted. Confirm eligibility, medical checks, contract terms and immigration requirements with Marriott and Malaysian authorities before relocating. Housing and transport are generally more affordable outside Kuala Lumpur, though island resorts may have seasonal work and limited services.
