Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, manufacturing, and healthcare. Johor Bahru is a busy mainland city close to Singapore, with lower living costs than Singapore and convenient access to shopping, food, and transport links. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous traditions, with Bahasa Malaysia widely used and English common in hospitality. Lifestyle options range from urban living to beaches and island trips, including Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Perhentian, and Redang. New foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass before starting employment; requirements depend on nationality, role, salary, and current immigration rules. The employer normally handles sponsorship and related applications. Relocating workers should budget for deposits, transport, medical checks, and document processing, and verify accommodation and benefits in writing. Johor Bahru is hot and humid year-round, with heavier rain during monsoon periods.
