Destination Guide

Surabaya is on Java, Indonesia’s most developed and populous island, with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics, manufacturing, technology, and education. Java offers better transport links and broader career options than many other Indonesian islands, while Bali is especially active in hospitality and tourism. Indonesian culture values warmth, respect, teamwork, and hierarchy; modest dress and polite communication are appreciated. Surabaya provides an urban lifestyle with shopping malls, varied food, cultural sites, and relatively affordable living costs compared with Jakarta or Bali. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work authorization and KITAS, with the company handling immigration and employment approvals. Do not work on a tourist visa. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, insurance, relocation support, and tax arrangements before accepting an offer. Learning basic Indonesian is highly useful for daily life and workplace relationships.
