Destination Guide

Qatar is a modern Gulf country rather than an island, with most hospitality opportunities concentrated in Doha. Jobs are available in hotels, restaurants, tourism, events, aviation, retail and business services, especially for candidates with international experience. Life is urban, safe and convenient, with malls, beaches, museums, sports venues and desert excursions. Qatari culture values hospitality, modest dress, family life and respect for Islamic traditions; alcohol is restricted to licensed venues. Summers are extremely hot, while winter offers pleasant outdoor weather. Employers commonly arrange work visas and residence permits, and may provide accommodation, transport, medical cover or annual flights, though packages vary. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, salary, working hours, probation terms and benefits in writing. Bring attested qualifications when requested and budget for initial expenses. Doha has a diverse expatriate community, but living costs, especially rent, can be high without employer accommodation.
