Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago with varied opportunities across Bali, Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Lombok, and other islands. Hospitality jobs are especially common in Bali, Jakarta, Batam, Lombok, and resort areas such as Manado and North Sulawesi. Manado offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle, warm weather, affordable local food, friendly communities, and access to Bunaken’s renowned diving. Indonesian culture values respect, family, religious diversity, and polite communication; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Living costs are generally lower than in major Western cities, although imported goods can be expensive. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an approved work permit, visa, and residence documentation before starting work. Requirements vary by nationality and position, so confirm details with the employer and Indonesian immigration authorities. Plan for health insurance, accommodation, banking, transport, and emergency contacts before relocating.
