Destination Guide

Indonesia offers hospitality, tourism, aviation, education, technology, manufacturing, and business opportunities across its major islands. Sumatra, where Medan is located, combines affordable living, diverse food, strong commercial activity, and access to destinations such as Lake Toba and Bukit Lawang. Java has the largest cities and broadest professional market, while Bali provides extensive tourism employment but higher living costs. Indonesian culture values respect, community, religious diversity, and polite communication; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed coastal or rural communities, with varied traffic, climate, and infrastructure. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored work visa and work authorization before employment; tourist visas do not permit work. Confirm requirements with the Indonesian immigration authorities and the employer. Plan for housing, health insurance, document legalization, local registration, and emergency funds before relocating.
