Destination Guide

Malaysia is a multicultural country with opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, finance and education, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Johor Bahru and Sabah. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah offer a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and strong tourism employment, although salaries and housing options vary. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in workplaces. Living costs are generally moderate, while Kuala Lumpur offers better public transport and broader career choices. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass or other work authorization sponsored by their employer; working on a tourist entry is not permitted. Employers usually guide the application process, but eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and current immigration rules. Before relocating, arrange a written contract, suitable accommodation, medical coverage and verification of visa responsibilities.
