Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a Gulf federation rather than a single island, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other coastal emirates offering extensive opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, aviation, retail, events and business services. Dubai has a cosmopolitan culture, modern infrastructure, international schools and an active lifestyle featuring beaches, shopping, desert activities and nightlife. The climate is hot for much of the year, while winters are pleasant and popular for outdoor activities. Arabic is the official language, but English is widely used; Russian, Italian and Spanish can be valuable in luxury hospitality. Employers normally sponsor work visas, residence permits and medical testing for successful overseas hires. Candidates should confirm contract benefits, accommodation, transport, insurance, probation terms and relocation costs. Respect for local laws, religious customs and public conduct is important. Housing can be expensive, so employer-provided accommodation or an allowance is significant.
