Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state and a major hub for hospitality, tourism, finance and regional business. Job opportunities are strong in hotels, restaurants, events, travel, technology and corporate regional offices, although competition is high and employers usually prioritise relevant qualifications and experience. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally welcoming, with English widely used at work alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Lifestyle options range from excellent public transport, food centres and shopping to beaches, parks and a busy arts and nightlife scene. Employment normally requires a valid work pass. The Employment Pass is commonly used for professional and managerial roles, subject to salary, qualifications and government assessment; the employer usually applies. Relocation costs and housing can be expensive, especially in central districts, so candidates should confirm salary, benefits, medical coverage and pass sponsorship before moving. Singapore has a tropical climate year-round.
