Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest number of hospitality, tourism, retail, aviation, and business opportunities. Dubai has a cosmopolitan culture, modern infrastructure, excellent restaurants, beaches, shopping, and year-round events. Life is generally fast-paced and convenient, although accommodation and transport costs can be high. The country is Muslim, so respectful clothing and behavior are expected, particularly during Ramadan and in public places. Most overseas employees need employer sponsorship for a residence visa and work permit; medical checks and Emirates ID registration are normally required. Many hotel employers provide accommodation or an allowance, transportation, meals, medical insurance, and annual airfare, but benefits vary by contract. Applicants should verify salary, service charge, housing, probation terms, and visa arrangements before accepting an offer.
