Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a modern Gulf country rather than a single island, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other emirates offering strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, aviation and events. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a highly international population, so respectful dress, etiquette and awareness of local customs are important. Dubai offers beaches, shopping, dining, nightlife, desert activities and excellent public transport, although summers are extremely hot. Hospitality jobs often include a work visa, medical insurance, accommodation or an allowance, meals and transport, but applicants should confirm every benefit in writing. Employers normally sponsor the residence and work permit after the contract is accepted and medical checks are completed. Relocating workers should budget for deposits, personal expenses and document attestation, and should never work on a tourist visa.
