Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak, with demand for chefs, pastry specialists, restaurant staff, housekeeping and hotel supervisors. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, reflected in its food, festivals, languages and customs. Petaling Jaya provides a modern urban lifestyle, shopping, public transport and easy access to Kuala Lumpur, while Malaysian islands such as Langkawi, Penang and the Perhentian Islands offer beaches and slower-paced living. International employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company normally manages the application before work begins. Requirements depend on nationality, qualifications, salary and contract length. Relocating candidates should budget for accommodation, transport, medical checks and document legalisation. English is widely used in hotels, although learning basic Malay is helpful. Malaysia is warm and humid year-round, with heavier monsoon periods varying by region.
