Destination Guide

Labuan Bajo is a coastal town on Flores Island and the gateway to Komodo National Park, known for dramatic hills, clear waters, diving, snorkeling, and boat trips to Komodo and nearby islands. Hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, marine activities, transport, retail, and construction provide the main employment opportunities, although professional roles can be competitive and seasonal. Daily life is quieter than in Jakarta or Bali, with a strong local community, warm climate, Indonesian and Manggarai cultural influences, and a growing expatriate presence. Housing, imported goods, and transport may cost more than in larger Indonesian cities, while internet and medical services can be more limited. Foreign nationals must have an Indonesian employer sponsor the appropriate work authorization and KITAS; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm accommodation, meals, flights, insurance, tax arrangements, and contract terms before relocating. Indonesian language skills and cultural sensitivity are valuable.
