Destination Guide

Penang is one of Malaysia’s most attractive places for hospitality professionals, particularly in hotels, restaurants, tourism, events, retail, and wellness. George Town offers a lively urban lifestyle, while Batu Ferringhi and the coastal areas provide a more resort-oriented environment. The island is celebrated for its UNESCO-listed heritage, multicultural communities, street food, temples, festivals, and a blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and international influences. Living costs are generally lower than Kuala Lumpur, although central and coastal rents can vary. English is widely used in tourism, and Malay is the national language. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval handled through Malaysian immigration procedures; working before approval is not permitted. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, tax, and relocation support before accepting an offer. Penang has an international airport and good mainland connections, making travel convenient.
