Destination Guide

Indonesia offers opportunities across hospitality, tourism, marketing, technology, education, manufacturing and international business. Jakarta, on Java, is the country’s main commercial center and provides the widest range of professional roles, though Bali, Lombok, Batam and destinations in eastern Indonesia offer strong tourism employment. Indonesian culture values hospitality, respect, family, community and religious diversity; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is helpful. Jakarta has excellent restaurants, shopping and entertainment, but also heavy traffic and a fast-paced lifestyle. Bali and other islands offer a more relaxed beach-oriented lifestyle, while living costs vary considerably by location. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work visa and work permit, commonly arranged through the hiring company; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, health insurance, taxation, accommodation and relocation support before accepting an offer. Indonesia’s tropical climate, regional diversity and extensive archipelago make it attractive for exploration and island travel.
