Destination Guide

Penang Island is one of Malaysia's most attractive places to relocate for hospitality work. Hotels, restaurants, cafés, resorts and tourism businesses create opportunities for supervisors, chefs, service staff, housekeeping and guest relations professionals. George Town offers a lively multicultural environment shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and colonial influences, with excellent street food and heritage sites. Life is generally more relaxed and affordable than Kuala Lumpur, although central areas and popular neighbourhoods can be more expensive. English is widely used in hotels and tourism. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and they should not begin work until the appropriate approval is issued. Employers usually guide the application process. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, transport, healthcare, documentation and initial living expenses.
