Destination Guide

Indonesia offers varied opportunities across Java, Sumatra, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and other islands. Hospitality work is strongest in Bali, Jakarta and Java, Batam, Lombok, and major resort destinations; Lampung offers opportunities linked to tourism, ports, agriculture, and growing regional development. Jakarta provides the largest business network but has heavy traffic and a fast-paced lifestyle. Bali and Lombok offer a more tourism-oriented, relaxed environment, while Sumatra generally provides lower living costs and a more local atmosphere. Indonesian culture emphasizes respect, hospitality, family, and community; modest dress and learning basic Bahasa Indonesia are helpful. Foreign employees usually need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work visa or stay permit, commonly arranged through the company. Do not work on a tourist visa. Relocating employees should budget for housing, insurance, transport, deposits, and document processing, and verify tax, visa, and contract conditions before arrival.
