Destination Guide

The Maldives offers employment mainly in luxury resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, aviation, construction, healthcare, education, and tourism services. Resort life is structured and communal, with staff housing, meals, uniforms, recreation areas, and transport usually provided, although schedules can be demanding and the remote setting may feel quiet. Maldivian culture is shaped by Islam, island traditions, fishing, family life, and strong hospitality. Respect local customs, dress modestly when visiting inhabited islands, and observe restrictions on alcohol outside resorts. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and valid employment approval; the resort normally manages the process, medical checks, and documentation. Confirm current immigration requirements before travel. Relocation usually involves flights to Velana International Airport followed by a speedboat or seaplane transfer. Costs, benefits, leave, insurance, and service charge should be checked carefully in the employment contract.
