Destination Guide

Manado is on Sulawesi, an Indonesian island known for marine tourism, volcanic landscapes, forests, and diverse cultures. Job opportunities are strongest in hotels, resorts, diving, restaurants, tourism, aviation, education, healthcare, and local business services. Life in Manado is generally more relaxed and affordable than in Jakarta or Bali, with warm weather, friendly communities, fresh seafood, and easy access to beaches and Bunaken. Indonesian is the main language; English is useful in international resorts. Foreign nationals normally need employer sponsorship and the appropriate work permit and limited-stay visa before starting employment; tourist visas do not authorize work. Employers may assist with immigration, accommodation, flights, insurance, and relocation, but these details should be confirmed in writing. New arrivals should budget for deposits, transport, medical needs, and document processing, and should respect local customs, religious diversity, and environmental protections.
